COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of April 1, 2022
Key points
Guadeloupe
In Guadeloupe, the epidemiological situation remained relatively stable in S12. Incidence and positivity rates were stable, with testing rates also remaining stable. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated for samples collected between March 20 and 26, 2022, was 0.99 - 95% CI [0.96–1.02], not significantly below 1. In hospitals, new admissions to inpatient wards were slightly decreasing, while the number of emergency department visits and the number of new admissions to critical care were relatively stable. Furthermore, the number of deaths occurring in Week 12 was increasing.
Saint Martin
In Saint-Martin, the increase in virological indicators observed the previous week continued in Week 12. Incidence and positivity rates were rising against a backdrop of relatively stable testing rates. This increase could be partly linked to festive events (a festival from March 9–13, amid declining adherence to preventive measures) that took place in the preceding weeks. However, the situation remained calm in hospitals.
Saint-Barthélemy
In Saint-Barthélemy, the epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 deteriorated in Week 12. The number of new cases was more than double that of the previous week. This increase could be linked, on the one hand, to increased testing, and on the other hand, to low adherence to preventive measures. In hospitals, the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 was slightly higher. However, no new hospitalizations for COVID-19 and no new deaths were recorded in week 12.
