Key points
Guadeloupe
Week 51 was marked by a very sharp increase in SARS-CoV-2 transmission. The number of new cases was nearly three times higher than in the previous week. The incidence rate, adjusted to account for the effect of the December 25 holiday, was significantly higher than in the previous week. The positivity rate was also rising, while testing rates remained stable (positivity rate adjusted to account for the effect of the December 25 holiday). The 20–29 and 30–39 age groups recorded the highest incidence rates. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between December 19 and 25 was 2.08 [1.92–2.24], significantly higher than 1, indicating an increase in the epidemic. The hospital situation was relatively stable.

The incidence rate adjusted for the effect of the December 25 holiday and the positivity rate were increasing, while testing rates remained stable (adjusted positivity rate accounting for the December 25 holiday). The 20–29 age group recorded the highest incidence rate. In hospitals, the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 was significantly higher. One death was reported in Week 51.
Saint-Barthélemy
The epidemiological situation regarding Covid-19 deteriorated significantly in week 51. The incidence rate adjusted for the effect of the December 25 holiday recorded in week 51 was significantly higher than the peak observed during previous waves in Saint-Barthélemy. The positivity and incidence rates were above their respective alert thresholds, with testing rates on the rise (incidence rate adjusted to account for the effect of the December 25 holiday).
