COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of June 30, 2022.

Key points

Guadeloupe

The spread of SARS-CoV-2 accelerated in S25. This acceleration follows several weeks of relative stability in virological indicators.

Incidence and positivity rates rose by 18% and 1.6 percentage points, respectively, against a backdrop of increased testing. The 30–39 age group recorded the highest incidence rate and the sharpest increase. Over the seven-day rolling period from June 19 to 25, the effective R value of 1.16 (95% CI [1.12–1.20]), which was significantly greater than 1, was consistent with ongoing viral circulation in the archipelago. Furthermore, this acceleration in SARS-CoV-2 circulation occurs against a backdrop of increasing prevalence of the L452R mutation (C1 screening result), which is present in several Omicron sublineages (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.11); specifically, 69% in S25 versus 39% in S24.

In terms of hospital care, visits to emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 increased, while hospitalizations across all departments remained relatively stable.

Saint Martin

Virological indicators were on the rise in week S25. Against a backdrop of increased testing, more than 30 additional people tested positive compared to the previous week. The positivity rate rose for the second consecutive week and exceeded the alert threshold set at 10%.

While emergency room visits rose slightly in week 2022-25, hospital indicators remained low since the resurgence of the epidemic observed in week 2022-12. However, one new hospital death recorded in SI-VIC and occurring in Saint Martin was reported in week 2022-25.

Saint-Barthélemy

New SARS-CoV-2 infections were on the rise, with testing activity also increasing. The positivity rate rose for the second consecutive week.

Nevertheless, the situation in hospitals remained calm during week 2022-25. This hospital situation has prevailed since the resurgence of the epidemic observed in week 2022-12.
