COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of April 16, 2021

Key Points

The public health situation continues to deteriorate sharply. The rise in SARS-CoV-2 epidemiological indicators continued during the second week of April, confirming an increase in viral circulation across the country. Positivity and incidence rates were rising amid a slight increase in testing. They remained above their respective alert thresholds. The peak of the second wave has passed. In hospitals, activity remained very high, with a large number of admissions to medical wards and intensive care units. Activity was also high in outpatient care and increased compared to the previous week. The UK variant is circulating predominantly in the population, while the Brazil/South Africa variant and the Nigeria/U.S. variant are circulating at low levels.

Individual prevention measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination are key priorities for addressing this epidemic dynamic. The region remains classified as having a high vulnerability level.
