COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of April 30, 2021

Key Points

The epidemic subsided last week, as did the number of new hospital admissions. However, pressure on hospitals remains very high. The positivity rate was stable, and the incidence rate was declining amid reduced testing activity. The variant of concern (VOC) 20I/50Y.V1 (UK) is still circulating actively in the population, and sporadic cases of the variant of concern 20H/501Y.V2 (South African) and the variant of interest 20A/E484K (VOI, B1.525, Nigeria/US) have been reported. In hospitals, activity remained stable and very high, with a high number of hospitalizations in medical wards and intensive care units. Activity in outpatient medical care was decreasing.

Individual preventive measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination are key priorities for addressing this epidemic trend.
