COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of February 4, 2022

Key Points

In Martinique, the peak of the fifth wave appears to have been reached in week S03. The decline in the incidence rate still observed in week S04 should be viewed in context, as it coincides with a decrease in the testing rate. The positivity rate remains stable and still high. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between January 23 and 29, 2022, was 0.93 [0.92–0.95], significantly below 1, confirming the decline of the epidemic over this seven-day rolling period. The decrease in new hospitalizations
across all departments also confirms this decline. Nevertheless, hospital pressure remains very high, with a significant number of new admissions and an increase in the number of deaths in week S04. It should be noted that excess mortality from all causes, across all age groups, was observed in weeks S02 and S03.
