COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of January 28, 2022

Key Points

In Martinique, SARS-CoV-2 circulation remained very high during week 2022-03. The positivity rate and incidence rate continued to rise despite a decrease in testing. The 0–14 and 15–44 age groups remained particularly affected. The effective reproduction number (R_e), calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between January 16 and
22, 2022, was 1.11 [1.09–1.13], significantly higher than 1. However, SARS-CoV-2 transmission during this period slowed compared to the previous seven days.

Hospitals were still under very heavy strain in week 2022-03. The number of new admissions and the number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 were increasing compared to the previous week. Although
declining, the number of critical care admissions remains high.
