COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of July 16, 2021

Key Points

For the past two weeks (2021-26), Martinique has been facing its fourth wave of SARS-CoV-2. Last week, the epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 continued to deteriorate rapidly, and the peak of the third wave has already been surpassed. The positivity rate and incidence rate were above their respective alert thresholds, with testing rates on the rise. The Alpha variant remains the dominant strain, and 95% of infections are locally transmitted. Adults aged 15 to 44 are particularly affected. In hospitals, the number of admissions was rising sharply. In community healthcare, the indicators followed the same trend.

Individual prevention measures and collective containment efforts must continue to be strengthened, and vaccination must be accelerated to curb this fourth wave.
