COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of June 9, 2022
Key Points
The increase in SARS-CoV-2 circulation observed over the past five consecutive weeks continued in S22. Virological indicators rose amid a resumption of activity following the long weekend of May 26–29, during which certain festive events took place.
The 50–59 age group recorded the highest incidence rate, and the incidence rate continues to rise among the oldest age group (65 and older). The 7-day rolling effective R (from May 29 to June 4) was 1.26 – 95% CI [1.24–1.29], significantly higher than 1. The proportion of the L452R mutation, present in several sublineages of the Omicron variant (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.11), also increased in S22, reaching 61% of screened samples compared to 37% the previous week. This further increase in the proportion of L452R mutations in S22 confirms the establishment of a new sublineage of the Omicron variant in the region.
At the hospital level, a marked increase in outpatient visits and adult emergency department visits was recorded.
