COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of March 10, 2022

Key Points

In Martinique, week 2022-09 was marked by an acceleration in the spread of SARS-CoV-2. All virological indicators were on the rise amid major Carnival festivities. Incidence and positivity rates rose sharply, while testing rates also increased. The 15–44 age group had the highest incidence. The effective reproduction number (R_e), calculated from SI-DEP data for samples collected between February 27 and March 5, 2022, was 1.85 [1.80–1.89], significantly higher than 1, indicating a resurgence of the epidemic over this 7-day rolling period.

At the hospital level, there was an increase in the number of emergency department visits for COVID-19, though this remains moderate in terms of overall numbers. The number of new hospitalizations across all departments was decreasing in week 2022-09.
