COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique, May 7, 2021

Key Points

The epidemic passed the peak of the third wave three weeks ago, but pressure on hospital services remains high. Positivity and incidence rates were declining, while testing activity was also decreasing. The number of hospitalized patients, although slightly down, remained high, a trend also observed in intensive care units. Activity in primary care was stable or even slightly decreasing.

The UK variant is still circulating actively, and local transmission of the South African and Brazilian variants has become established in the population.

Individual prevention measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination are key priorities for addressing this epidemic dynamic.
