COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of October 22, 2021
Key Points
The epidemic is stabilizing in week 2021-41, with a decline in virological indicators. Hospitals are under less strain, particularly in critical care units. The department remains in phase 3, “epidemic.”
The positivity rate and incidence rate were decreasing, while testing rates were rising sharply. All age groups recorded a decrease in incidence except for those aged 65 and older. The age group with the highest incidence remained those aged 15–44. It should be noted that the incidence among those aged 70–79 and 90 and older was rising sharply compared to the previous week (up 56% and 200%, respectively), likely due to increased testing. The effective R value calculated from SI-DEP data for samples collected between October 10 and 16 was 0.84 [0.77–0.92], significantly below 1. The Delta variant remained the dominant strain.
In hospitals, the number of admissions across all departments and to intensive care units continued to decline. Of note was an increase in visits to adult emergency departments as well as home visits by the SOS-médecins association.
