Dengue Surveillance in the Caribbean. Update as of June 30, 2023.

Key Points

  • In Guadeloupe, the virus is spreading and becoming more active throughout the Guadeloupe archipelago.

  • In Martinique, the circulation of the dengue virus continues and is spreading to the north and center of the island, with the southern part of the island having been affected for several months. Several dozen cases of dengue have been imported into mainland France since the start of the resurgence in cases (November 2022 for Guadeloupe and January 2023 for Martinique). The DENV-2 serotype has been identified in the majority of investigated cases.

  • In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the epidemiological situation is calm.

Following the meeting of members of the Interregional Technical Committee on Arboviruses from the four territories on June 21, Santé publique France in the Antilles considers that the epidemiological situation corresponds to: 1/ A transition to Phase 2, Level 2 of the PSAGE: active circulation of the virus in Guadeloupe and Martinique: an outbreak with potential for further spread or multiple outbreaks with epidemiological links between them; and 2/ Remaining in Phase 1: Sporadic cases in Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy.
