Influenza Surveillance in the Caribbean. 2018–2019 Season.

Epidemiological Situation

Santé publique France coordinates influenza surveillance, the objectives of which are to detect the onset of seasonal epidemics, to describe them (temporal and spatial monitoring, severity, and identification of at-risk populations; estimation of their impact on the community and healthcare facilities), to identify and track circulating strains, and to evaluate control measures (vaccination). In the French West Indies, epidemiological surveillance of influenza begins in early October (week 40) and ends in mid-April of the following year (week 15).
This epidemiological update presents a summary of the influenza outbreaks that occurred in the French West Indies during the 2018–2019 season.
