Epidemiological Situation
Guadeloupe: The flu epidemic continues at high levels in Guadeloupe. Since the start of the epidemic, an estimated 4,400 cases have been reported in private practice, and 113 emergency room visits have been recorded, five of which resulted in hospitalization. The influenza virus isolated in hospitals is predominantly type A, while in community settings, both type A and type B viruses have been isolated. Since early November, ten severe cases, all of influenza A, have been reported, three of which resulted in death.

Saint Martin: Since the start of the flu epidemic, 1,570 flu-like cases have been reported in community practice, and four emergency room visits—one of which resulted in hospitalization—have been recorded. The A(H1N1)pdm09 virus has been identified on several occasions in community settings and in hospitals. Two severe cases (including one death) have been reported.

Saint-Barthélemy: Since the start of the epidemic in late December, 463 flu-like illnesses have been reported in private practice, and 29 emergency room visits—one of which resulted in hospitalization—have been recorded. The epidemic peaked in early February. Type A and B viruses were isolated from samples taken in town and at the hospital.
