Situation Analysis

All epidemiological surveillance indicators for dengue fever in Martinique point to the epidemic continuing. It has now been ongoing for 11 weeks. During weeks 37 through 40 of 2013, the most affected municipalities were located in the north (Prêcheur, Basse Pointe, Carbet) and in the south (Diamant, Marin, Sainte-Anne), while the epidemic was less active in central Martinique. No unusual severity of this epidemic has been observed to date. The predominance of DENV-2, observed since early 2013, continues into September. This serotype was responsible for the 2007 epidemic. The situation corresponds to Phase 4, Level 1 of the Psage Dengue* (confirmed epidemic). Given the epidemiological situation, it is important to remind the public of the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and taking individual precautions against mosquitoes. In the event of sudden onset of fever, it is recommended to consult your primary care physician.
