28,895 participants in Tobacco-Free Month (representing 1.9% of daily smokers); 1,516 calls to 3989; 8,066 activations of the Tabac Info Service app; 1,109 orders for materials and 66,085 orders for smoking cessation kits by regional partners of Tobacco-Free Month; 1,645 pharmacies participating in the campaign (representing 65.4% coverage); 252 reported initiatives (70% of which targeted young people).
New consumption indicators in 2017
On average, 8.1 manufactured cigarettes per day and 3.6 hand-rolled cigarettes per day consumed by daily smokers; prevalence of shisha use 2.4%; proportion of smokers purchasing tobacco abroad 8%.
Estimated regional mortality attributable to tobacco use in 2015
An estimated 8,242 deaths attributable to tobacco use, representing 12.2% of all deaths in the region; proportion of deaths attributable to tobacco use among men 18.4%, among women 6.2%, before age 65 23%, after age 65 10%; causes for which the proportion of deaths attributable to tobacco use is highest: chronic respiratory diseases 39% and cancers 26%; distribution of causes of death attributable to tobacco use: cancers 61.1%, cardiovascular diseases 22.3%, chronic respiratory diseases 13.3%, and infectious diseases 3.3%.
