Heat Wave, Extreme Heat

• From August 12, 2023, to August 25, 2023, amid a heat wave, Météo-France issued red alerts for up to 7 departments (Ain, Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Loire, Haute-Loire, and Rhône), representing 70.1% of the region’s resident population, and 5 departments under an orange alert (Allier, Cantal, Puy-de-Dôme, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie), representing 29.9% of the region’s resident population. This episode is the second of the season. It is notable in terms of duration, maximum temperature reached, and its late occurrence.

Chikungunya, dengue, Zika

• 98 imported cases of dengue, mostly from Martinique and Guadeloupe, and 3 cases of chikungunya have been identified in the region.

COVID-19

• In Week 35 (August 28 to September 3, 2023), all COVID-19 epidemiological indicators (confirmed cases, emergency room visits, SOS Médecins calls) are on the rise, while remaining at a low level in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

• The effective reproduction number (average number of secondary cases generated by an index case) for the region is stable and significantly greater than 1, ranging from 1.37 (95% CI: 1.23–1.53) based on emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19, reflecting the current resurgence of the epidemic.
