An outbreak of acute gastroenteritis caused by Salmonella Typhimurium in Vendôme (41) – September 1994

An outbreak of acute gastroenteritis caused by Salmonella serotype Typhimurium occurred at a municipal daycare center in September–October 1994 in Loir-et-Cher (Vendôme). The positive results for Salmonella in six stool cultures (four children and two adults) led the PMI physician to alert the Health Department of the Loir-et-Cher Departmental Directorate of Health and Social Affairs on September 23. An epidemiological investigation was conducted at the daycare center to identify the source and mode of transmission of the disease. This study suggests human-to-human transmission.
