Health Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Epidemiological Update as of November 22, 2012
Key Points
The number of influenza and influenza-like illness diagnoses reported by the SOS Médecins associations in Strasbourg and Mulhouse has remained low over the past few weeks. A few sporadic cases of influenza have been diagnosed in mainland France.
The number of cases of bronchiolitis and bronchitis among children under 2 years of age has decreased slightly over the past two weeks. This trend is observed across all metropolitan regions. This phenomenon occurs annually following the All Saints’ Day school break and the reduction in social contact that helps prevent the spread of viruses causing bronchiolitis. However, a resurgence of the epidemic is expected.
Despite a slight decrease in the number of diagnoses of diarrhea and gastroenteritis reported by the SOS Médecins associations in Alsace over the past two weeks, gastroenteritis remains the most frequently diagnosed condition in week 46 by the Bas-Rhin association and the second most frequent by the Haut-Rhin association.
