Key Points

Measles Outbreak in Moselle

  • As of April 18, 67 cases of measles have been reported by the Grand Est Regional Health Agency (ARS). Of these cases, 58 are confirmed (51 through laboratory testing, 7 through epidemiological investigation) and 9 are suspected (based on suggestive clinical signs).

Gastroenteritis Surveillance

  • Hospital activity related to the treatment of gastroenteritis rose slightly in week 15 (April 10–16) and was on par with levels observed in 2016 during the same period.

  • Activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to gastroenteritis is generally declining despite some regular spikes. In week 15, activity levels were lower than in the same period of the previous two years.

  • According to data from the virology laboratories at the region’s university hospitals, rotavirus continues to circulate in the region.

Asthma Surveillance

  • In emergency departments, asthma-related activity was stable in week 15 and in line with levels observed during the same period in previous years.

  • Activity related to asthma among SOS Médecins associations has generally been declining for several weeks, despite a slight increase in Week 15. The recorded figures are lower than those observed during the same period in the previous two years.

Allergy Surveillance

  • Since week 01, allergy-related activity has been increasing in outpatient care.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk associated with birch pollen is very high in the Vosges, Bas-Rhin, and Haut-Rhin departments, and the risk is high in the region’s other departments.

Carbon monoxide poisoning surveillance

  • During weeks 14 and 15, there were 5 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning involving 9 people.

Mortality surveillance

  • As of April 18, 2017, the number of deaths observed over the past few weeks falls within the usual range of fluctuation.
