COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of April 28, 2022

Key Points

The epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 has been generally stable across the region for the past 5 weeks based on virological indicators. Hospital indicators, meanwhile, have been stable for the past 2 months.

In Week 16, the incidence rate, adjusted for the April 18 holiday, was 149 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points. The testing rate fell (-20%), due to the partial closure of private laboratories on Monday, April 18.

The effective R was down to 0.90, which is not statistically significant. It was 1.01 (not statistically significant) in week 15. Regarding hospital activity, the number of new hospitalizations across all departments was down compared to week 15. There was 1 new admission to the ICU and 1 reported death in week 16. The number of emergency department visits remained stable.

Vaccination coverage remains stagnant across the region.
