COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of February 24, 2022

Key points

The peak of the fifth wave was reached in early January in French Guiana.

For five consecutive weeks, the incidence rate has been declining sharply: it has halved each week for over a month. It stands at 83 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 7, and the effective R is stable and low (0.40). All sectors are affected by this decline. Hospital care indicators (emergency room visits, routine hospitalizations, and intensive care admissions) are decreasing, reflecting the drop in infections observed since early January. The weekly death toll remains low despite a slight increase in week 7.

Vaccination coverage with at least one dose has not increased compared to the previous week, and coverage with a booster dose has increased by 0.7 percentage points among those aged 12 and older.
