COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana, July 7, 2022.

Key Points

Since Week 25, virological indicators have stabilized, with an incidence rate of 491 cases per 10,000 inhabitants in Week 26 across the entire territory. The sectors of Cayenne Island and Savanes have the highest indicators. This stabilization is possibly linked to people leaving for vacation and may be only temporary.

Among the 70 samples sequenced by the Pasteur Institute of French Guiana in week S26, the BA.5 sublineage has become the dominant strain (59% of sequences), gradually replacing the BA.2 sublineage (36%).

In hospitals, new admissions across all departments remain stable. Three ICU admissions were reported in week S26, and one in-hospital death was recorded.
