COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of June 25, 2020
Summary
Epidemiological Situation in French Guiana as of June 25, 2020, at 8:00 a.m.
Since early March, 3,033 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in French Guiana: on average, 200 cases have been confirmed each day since the last Epidemiological Update, compared to 120 to 150 the previous week.
The rate of medical consultations for acute respiratory infections has remained stable compared to last week (nearly 300 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants), but one-third of these consultations are likely still attributable to the virus responsible for COVID-19.
Visits to emergency rooms for suspected COVID-19, however, are on the rise and account for 16% of all emergency room visits.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 have also increased significantly, with an average of two admissions to intensive care per day, compared to one the previous week. Ten people have died, including five in the last seven days.
The outbreak has therefore intensified in French Guiana, although the intensity of viral circulation varies across the territory.
Now more than ever, vigilance is crucial, with strict enforcement of preventive measures, particularly around people at risk of developing a severe form of the disease.
These preventive measures apply to daily life but also to anyone with suggestive symptoms or a positive test result, as well as to all individuals in close contact with them, who must then self-isolate for 14 days and wear a mask.
