COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana, June 9, 2022
Key Points
The initial resurgence of the epidemic observed four weeks ago among those under 20 has been confirmed across all age groups, with a slowdown among those over 70 in S22.
Coastal areas, particularly in the west, are the most affected, while the situation in the Oyapock region remains stable.
The BA.2 sublineage of the Omicron variant remains by far the most prevalent; however, it is worth noting the emergence of six locally transmitted cases of infection with the BA.5 sublineage in weeks S21 and S22, compared to a single imported case in previous weeks, warranting vigilance in the coming weeks.
The proportion of hospitalizations for COVID-19 has remained stable and at a low level since early March.
Vaccination coverage continues to stagnate across the entire country.
