COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of November 24, 2022

Key Points

  • In S46, virological indicators rose sharply in French Guiana: the incidence rate tripled, rising from 49 to 162 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate doubled, rising from 15.5% to 29%. Incidence was rising across all age groups.

  • This increase affects all regions of French Guiana except Maroni, where the number of detected cases remains relatively low.

  • The effective R value was also rising, reflecting this situation: it stood at 2.18 [1.99–2.39] for the period from November 13 to 19.

  • Visits to emergency rooms for suspected COVID-19 doubled last week. There has also been an increase in hospitalizations across all departments. Two people were admitted to intensive care, and no deaths were recorded in the hospital.
