COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of October 27, 2022

Key points

  • In French Guiana, virological indicators remained stable in Week 42.

  • The incidence remains low and similar to the previous week, with 22 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This situation is observed across all regions of French Guiana. However, an upward trend in the effective R was observed over the 7-day rolling period from October 16 to 22, 2022: 1.07 [0.83–1.34]; it remains, however, not significantly above 1.

  • Hospital indicators were also low and stable, with one new hospitalization across all departments recorded in Week 42. There were no ICU admissions or deaths due to COVID-19 during Week 42.

  • The BQ.1.1 sublineage of the BA.5 sublineage of the Omicron variant, first detected in French Guiana in week 41, was the predominant strain in week 42.
