Epidemiological Situation of the Zika Virus in French Guiana. Update as of December 23, 2016.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

The Zika epidemic has ended throughout the country since the third week of September (W37, 2016). Over the past two weeks (W49 and 50, 2016), the number of clinically suggestive cases was low, and the impact on hospital activity also remained low. Only a few confirmed cases were recorded in the territory, but no new outbreaks have been identified for several weeks. On December 1, the Management Committee approved the transition to Level 2 (“epidemic outbreaks”) of the Psage arbovirus* protocol for the Cayenne Island sector and the transition to Level 1 (“sporadic cases”) for the rest of the territory. The situation in the Cayenne Island sector will be presented to the next Expert Committee, which may propose to the Management Committee that the Psage be moved to Level 1, “sporadic cases.”
