Epidemiological Situation of the Zika Virus in the French West Indies and French Guiana. Update as of February 4, 2016.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Viral circulation is clearly on the rise in Martinique, where the epidemiological situation regarding Zika now corresponds to Level 3a of the Psage* for emerging arboviruses: "epidemic phase requiring standard management measures."

In French Guiana, the epidemic is spreading along the coastal areas (from St. Laurent du Maroni to Cayenne Island). Two clinically suggestive cases have been identified in the Maroni region, an area currently classified as non-epidemic.The impact on hospital activity remains low for the hospitals in Cayenne and Kourou; however, there has been an increase in the number of Zika-related consultations at the medical emergency services in Cayenne and Kourou, with a notable rise in Zika-related consultations at the medical emergency services in Cayenne. On January 22, the Management Committee approved the transition to Level 3 of the Psage* for emerging arboviruses in coastal municipalities: "epidemic phase requiring standard management measures."

The epidemiological situation regarding Zika in the community of Saint-Barthélemy corresponds to Level 1c of the Psage* for emerging arboviruses: “no confirmed indigenous viral circulation, with viral circulation in other overseas departments and territories.”

In Saint Martin and Guadeloupe, the epidemiological situation regarding Zika corresponds to Level 2 of the Psage*: "autochthonous viral circulation."
