Influenza Outbreak Update in French Guiana. As of January 5, 2018.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Influenza activity remained low between mid-September and late November 2017.

However, since early December, an upward trend has been observed, reaching levels in the last week of December typically seen at the start of the epidemic season.

Since December, influenza A and B viruses, as well as RSV A and RSV B, have been identified.

During this same period, activity related to visits for influenza-like illness was low in the CHAR emergency department and moderate in the CMCK and GMC emergency departments.

To date, two severe cases have been admitted to the CHAR intensive care unit.
