Situation Analysis

Flu-like IllnessesAll flu surveillance indicators have been rising over the past two weeks (both in primary care and emergency departments); however, they remain below the peak levels expected for this season. No influenza virus has been isolated so far.

GastroenteritisThe increase in the number of patients seeking care from primary care physicians for gastroenteritis, combined with sustained activity in pediatric emergency departments, calls for heightened vigilance over the coming weeks.

Bronchiolitis: Epidemiological surveillance indicators for bronchiolitis are on the rise. The number of cases estimated from the sentinel physician network has exceeded the maximum expected level for the season since week S2015-47. RSV is being isolated daily by the CHUM virology laboratory. An epidemic has been declared.

Chickenpox: The number of cases suggestive of chickenpox seen by general practitioners has been increasing for the past two weeks.
