Surveillance of Seasonal Illnesses in Martinique. Update as of December 30, 2015.

Situation Analysis

Flu-like IllnessesFlu-related activity has been sustained in emergency departments over the past three weeks, but the estimated number of visits for this reason remains below the maximum values expected for the season. Four influenza viruses have been isolated so far (2 type B and 2 type A).

GastroenteritisAlthough the estimated number of patients seeking care from primary care physicians for gastroenteritis is below the maximum expected values, the sustained activity in pediatric emergency departments for this reason requires increased vigilance over the coming weeks.

Bronchiolitis: Epidemiological surveillance indicators for bronchiolitis have remained above the maximum expected values for the season since week S2015-47. RSV is being isolated daily by the CHUM virology laboratory. The epidemic is still ongoing.

ChickenpoxThe number of cases suggestive of chickenpox seen by general practitioners has been below the expected peak values since the beginning of December. The resurgence observed in late November has not been confirmed.
