Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Epidemiological Update, July 18, 2013.

Asthma attacks: At the regional level, outpatient and inpatient surveillance indicators are generally stable and at the levels typically observed at this time of year.

Allergies: Regionally, outpatient and hospital surveillance indicators show a slight increase in recent weeks, coinciding with improved weather conditions and the continued high presence of grass pollen.

Heat-related illnesses: Nationally, since early July there has been a notable increase—though within the expected range given the high temperatures—in emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins for heat-related illnesses. Regionally, a moderate and expected increase—given the summer weather conditions—in heat-related illnesses is observed this week.

Acute gastroenteritis: Nationally, the incidence of acute gastroenteritis is below the epidemic threshold. Regionally, outpatient and inpatient surveillance indicators remain stable and below the regional epidemic threshold (SOS Médecins data).

Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS): A moderate and expected increase in heat-related illnesses—primarily hyponatremia—has been observed since July 8. Although Météo France forecasts a further rise in maximum temperatures starting Sunday, biometeorological indices are expected to remain below threshold values, thus not warranting the issuance of a health alert.
