Health Surveillance in Picardy. Epidemiological Update as of August 1, 2013.
Asthma attacks: At the regional level, outpatient and inpatient surveillance indicators are stable.
Allergies: At the regional level, outpatient surveillance indicators are stable, though at a higher level than in previous years. In contrast, hospital surveillance shows an increase in allergy diagnoses this week.
Hyperthermia and heatstroke: At the regional level, since the beginning of July, a significant increase has been observed, in line with expectations, particularly in primary care.
Acute gastroenteritis: Nationally, the incidence of acute gastroenteritis remains below the epidemic threshold. Regionally, since the beginning of the year, the number of consultations for acute gastroenteritis at SOS Médecins has been steadily decreasing, falling below expected values and below the regional epidemic threshold (SOS Médecins data).
Emergency room visits for children under 1 year and adults over 75: Emergency room visits for children under 1 year and adults over 75 are generally stable across the region’s three departments.
Deaths among those aged 75 and older and 85 and older: Deaths among those aged 75 and older and 85 and older are decreasing this week, remaining in line with expected values and below regional alert thresholds.
Enhanced monitoring under the Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS): Nationally, since early July, there has been a significant increase—though within expected proportions given the high temperatures—in emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins for heat-related conditions. An expected increase in heat-related conditions—primarily heatstroke in outpatient care, hyponatremia, and dehydration in inpatient care—has been observed since July 7 and is rising again in week 2013-30. Météo France forecasts a heat wave peak today and tomorrow (August 2); however, biometeorological indices are expected to remain below threshold values, thus not warranting the issuance of a health alert.
