Public Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy. Special Epidemiological Report on Sacs: 2015 Summary.
Key Points
Enhanced monitoring under the Heat Wave and Health Alert System (SACS): The enhanced monitoring implemented under the Heat Wave and Health Alert System ended on August 31.In mainland France, three heat waves occurred during the summer (June 29–July 8, July 13–23, and August 5–9). Excess mortality and increased healthcare utilization were observed. In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, no heat waves occurred during the summer. However, a heatwave was recorded from June 29 to July 4, leading to a limited increase in healthcare utilization (emergency room visits and SOS-Médecins consultations) for heat-related conditions. Outside of this period, and aside from a slight rise in temperatures during the first half of August, the various indicators remained stable around their usual levels.
Emergency room visits by those aged 75 and older: In the five departments of the inter-region, emergency room visits by those aged 75 and older remained stable and within the usual range.
Deaths among all age groups, those aged 75 and older, and those aged 85 and older: In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, deaths among all age groups and those aged 75 and older reported by the computerized civil registry remained generally stable and similar to the figures observed during the summer of the two previous years.
