The Benefits of a "Fitness Trail" for Residents of a Sonacotra Shelter
Sonacotra (National Housing Construction Company for Workers) was established in 1956, initially to house Algerian workers. In the 1990s, these housing complexes were gradually converted into public housing for low-income residents. Today, they are home to both long-term migrant workers—many of whom are retired—and a new population of people who often face challenges with social integration. The ARèS 92 City-Hospital Network was approached in April 2004 to conduct an awareness and screening campaign for the main health conditions affecting residents living in a shelter in the Hauts-de-Seine department. ARèS 92 is a healthcare network composed of private and hospital-based healthcare professionals. Its goal is to improve care for patients infected with HIV, those with substance use disorders, or those in socially vulnerable situations. To assess the health status of immigrant workers living in shelters, a clinical and dental examination, a social interview, a chest X-ray, and a blood test were offered to all residents of a Sonacotra residence. The article describes this "health pathway."
