• Since 2020, the number of emergency room visits due to suicide attempts has been rising in Normandy, reaching a peak of 4,596 visits in 2023 among people aged 10 and older. Between January 1, 2024, and July 31, 2024, 2,734 emergency room visits due to suicide attempts have already been reported by emergency services in Normandy.

• The proportion of emergency room visits in the first half of 2024 has remained stable since 2022 (at around 0.5%).

Suicidal Thoughts

• Emergency room visits for suicidal ideation, both in number and as a share of activity, rose sharply in 2023 (2,355 visits, representing a 0.25% share of activity). The number of emergency department visits in 2024 (data as of July 31) was 1,535 among those aged 10 and older, with a share of activity of 0.28%.
