Epidemiological Situation

In mainland France, according to Inserm’s Sentinelles network, the incidence rate of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice was estimated at 274 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 2014-02, which was just below the epidemic threshold (280 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and an increase compared to the previous week (233 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 2014-01). At the regional level, the highest incidence rates were recorded in Brittany, Alsace, and Limousin. According to the InVS national update of January 14, 2014 (data for week 2014-02), activity in metropolitan hospital emergency departments for acute gastroenteritis was decreasing compared to the previous week (source: InVS, OSCOUR® network). Activity was similar to that observed during the same period in the 2011/12 season and lower than the activity observed during the same period in the 2012/13 season.
