West Nile Virus

• In late July 2023, locally acquired human cases were reported for the first time in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

• As of August 8, 2023, 7 human cases had been identified in Gironde (4 confirmed cases and 3 pending confirmation); all of these cases reside in the Bordeaux metropolitan area or a nearby municipality. These cases indicate an expansion of viral circulation in France.

• One indigenous equine case has also been reported in Gironde.

These cases (equine and human) are the first reported in France for the 2023 season.

Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika

• From May 1 to August 4, 2023, 39 imported cases of dengue were identified, nearly half of which were in Gironde (46%). As a reminder, 30 imported cases of dengue were identified between May 1 and November 30, 2022, in the region.

• To limit the emergence of local transmission chains, 71 entomological surveys (mosquito searches) and 40 vector control treatments were carried out around cases residing in or visiting the region.
