End of the Flu Epidemic – Preliminary Report in LimousinIn Limousin, the epidemic began in week 02-2015 with an increase in surveillance indicators (hospital emergency rooms and SOS Médecins Limoges). The peak was reached in week 07-2015. During the peak week, the number of consultations at SOS Médecins Limoges was 445, and the number of emergency room visits was 114, including 11 hospitalizations. The levels reached were significantly higher than in the previous season (2013–2014). Since the start of surveillance, 25 outbreaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in long-term care facilities for the elderly have been reported. Among the closed outbreaks (23), the median attack rates were 25% among residents and 3% among staff. Twenty-one residents were hospitalized, and none died. Among the facilities that responded, median influenza vaccination coverage was 89% among residents and 20% among staff.During the 2014–2015 winter, surveillance of severe cases conducted by the InVS in the Limousin region, in collaboration with intensive care units, identified 3 severe cases. The number of severe cases reported this winter is lower than that of the previous flu season (5 cases).
