Health Monitoring in the Limousin Region. Update as of September 4, 2015.

Mushroom Poisonings. Status as of September 2, 2015. Data consolidated as of September 2, 2015. The InVS has been conducting annual surveillance of mushroom poisonings since 2010, based on cases recorded by the Poison Control and Toxicovigilance Centers (CAPTV) and the Oscour® network (a coordinated surveillance network for emergency department visits, currently covering approximately 90% of hospital emergency departments). In France, 212 cases of mushroom poisoning were recorded by the CAPTVs between Monday, June 29, 2015, and Sunday, August 30, 2015 (weeks 27 through 35). Since week 32, the number of mushroom poisoning cases recorded by the CAPTVs has been steadily increasing, with a cumulative total of 126 cases for weeks 34 and 35 alone, representing 59% of all cases since June 29, 2015.To date, no deaths or serious cases have been reported by the network of poison control centers. Approximately three deaths and more than twenty serious cases are observed by the CAPTVs each year. The Oscour® network recorded 157 emergency room visits for mushroom poisoning during the same period. In Limousin, in 2015, since the start of seasonal surveillance (July 1 to August 30), 3 cases of mushroom poisoning were recorded by the CAPTV. In emergency departments, 7 visits were recorded, all during week 35 of 2015. In 2014, 9 visits for mushroom poisoning were recorded in emergency departments over the entire surveillance period (August 1 to December 31, 2015).This resurgence in mushroom poisoning cases should be viewed in conjunction with the return of rainfall, which promotes mushroom growth and consequently their harvesting. The InVS will continue its weekly national surveillance of mushroom poisoning cases through December 31, 2015.
