Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of August 7, 2014.

Mortality: The number of deaths recorded based on civil registry data for the month of July remains close to the expected figures for this period.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: The number of emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age is slightly above the alert threshold; no significant changes for those aged 75 and older.

Notifiable Diseases (NDs) No unusual situation; 6 cases of Legionnaires’ disease and 4 cases of foodborne illness were reported in July.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance Since May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde—where the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is established—76 suspected cases have been reported.Among these, 32 cases of chikungunya, 12 cases of dengue, and 1 co-infection have been confirmed, all of which were imported. To date, no locally acquired cases have been identified.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)Activity is low and in line with expectations in Aquitaine and France.

Asthma and Allergies: In the region, a slight increase in asthma activity according to SOS Médecins, stable activity for asthma and allergies according to Oscour®; indicators are stable at the national level. Forecast: low allergy risk in Aquitaine.

Heat-related illnesses: Activity is decreasing according to Oscour® and SOS Médecins in Aquitaine and nationwide. No heatwave is forecast by Météo France.

Enterovirus meningitis: The virus has been circulating since week 26 in Aquitaine, according to Oscour® and the virology department at Bordeaux University Hospital.
