Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 3, 2015.

Mortality: The observed mortality rate is in line with what is expected for this time of year.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age continues to rise in connection with the bronchiolitis epidemic. Activity is close to expected levels for those aged 75 and older.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-GaronneSince May 1, 156 suspected cases have been reported, including 9 confirmed imported cases of dengue and 5 confirmed imported cases of chikungunya. In total, as of November 27, in the 22 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 127 imported cases of dengue and 30 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. Six locally acquired cases of dengue confirmed in Nîmes. End of the enhanced surveillance period. Confirmed cases of chikungunya and dengue are subject to mandatory reporting.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations observed since November 1, 2015.

Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 1, 2015, 11 incidents have been reported in Aquitaine, including 4 related to boilers, 2 to the use of barbecues/fire pits, and 2 to generators. In total, 20 people had to be transported to the emergency room.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AG) In Aquitaine, as in France, activity is moderate with figures close to expected levels and a slight increase in SOS Médecins activity.

Influenza: Influenza activity remains low in all regions of mainland France and across Europe

Bronchiolitis: Epidemic activity: the rise in indicators continues. In week 48, activity in emergency departments (22% of visits among children under 2 years of age), at SOS Médecins clinics (13% of procedures among children under 2 years of age), and within the AquiRespi network (236 cases treated) is higher than in the two previous seasons. An increase in positive RSV test results was also recorded.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: One report of enterovirus meningitis and 3 cases according to the Oscour® network. Among the 29 positive respiratory virus tests, 13 were rhinoviruses and 14 were RSV.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since June 29, 2015, 120 cases according to CAPTV and 47 cases according to Oscour® (1,362 and 563 in France) (data to be consolidated). Three severe cases reported in Aquitaine.
