Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of October 29, 2015.

Mortality: In week 42, the number of deaths across all ages and causes was above expected levels but below the alert thresholds.

Emergency room visits among vulnerable populations: An increase in emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age, with activity above the alert threshold. Activity among those aged 75 and older is close to expected levels.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-GaronneSince May 1, 131 suspected cases have been reported, including 4 confirmed imported cases of dengue and 4 confirmed imported cases of chikungunya. In total, as of October 23, in the 22 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 102 imported cases of dengue and 27 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. Six locally acquired cases of dengue have been confirmed in Nîmes (Languedoc-Roussillon region).

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations have been observed since October 1, 2015.

Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 1, 2015, five incidents have been reported in Aquitaine, including three in S43. One mass incident involved more than a hundred people, none of whom required transfer to the emergency room.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AG) In Aquitaine, activity is low and remains stable compared to previous weeks. In France, activity is stable, lower than that observed over the past two years.

InfluenzaActivity remains low with a few sporadic cases of influenza in mainland France.

Bronchiolitis: Increased activity, with trends consistent with expected values in emergency departments and higher rates of calls to SOS Médecins than those observed last year. Aqui-Respi treated 62 children (nearly twice as many as during the previous shift). Nationally, this increase is also observed, with an earlier and more pronounced rise in the Île-de-France region.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: One report of enterovirus meningitis and 5 cases according to the Oscour® network. Among the 32 positive respiratory virus tests, 21 were rhinoviruses and 4 were RSV.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Since June 29, 2015, 46 cases according to Oscour® (499 in France) (data to be consolidated). One severe case reported in Aquitaine. CAPTV data not available this week.
