COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Occitanie as of December 17, 2020
Key Points
In Week 50, COVID-19 syndromic surveillance indicators (use of emergency care, visits to private practices) showed a slight decrease at the regional level compared to the previous week. At the regional and departmental levels, virological indicators remain at high levels. They were decreasing or stable in 11 departments, including Haute-Garonne and Hérault, but increasing in Gard and Lot. Weekly numbers of new hospital admissions and admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) continued to decline at the regional level.
Regarding mortality data, the decline in the weekly number of hospital deaths continues, as does the decline in all-cause deaths. For the latter, significant excess deaths among those aged 65 and older were observed in week 49 in Lot, Lozère, and Hautes-Pyrénées.
The trend in these indicators reflects a stabilization, at a high level, of viral circulation at the regional level; however, this is not observed in certain departments of the region where circulation is intensifying (departments 30 and 46) or continues to decline.
