COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Occitanie, December 3, 2020
Key Points
COVID-19: Viral circulation continues to decline but remains active at a high level in the region, justifying continued vigilance regarding preventive measures and physical distancing
In Week 48, COVID-19 surveillance indicators were decreasing compared to the previous week in most departments in the region, a trend similar to that observed in our previous Epidemiological Update (with the exception of the Gers department, where virological indicators were slightly increasing). The effective reproduction numbers (R_e) estimated from SI-DEP, OSCOUR®, and SI-VIC data were also all significantly below 1.
Regarding mortality data, the decline in the weekly number of hospital deaths observed since week 47 continues. Subject to consolidation of the data provided by INSEE, the number of deaths from all causes was also decreasing in week 47 for the second consecutive week; however, significant excesses were still observable in three departments of the region (Gard, Haute-Garonne, and Hautes-Pyrénées) and particularly among those aged 65 and older.
The trend in these indicators points to a decrease in viral circulation in Occitanie. However, the COVID-19 epidemic remains active in Occitanie.
