Overview of overall activity (emergencies and SOS Médecins):
We note a few instances where statistical thresholds were exceeded: the observed values were just above the thresholds and returned to a value below these thresholds in the following days. In the Hérault department, for three consecutive days, the number of emergency room visits exceeded the statistical threshold defined for the department. Other indicators remained below the thresholds, but their values were rising (particularly hospitalizations). Activity among SOS Médecins associations in the region is relatively stable, while it is rising slightly at the national level.
Monitoring of seasonal illnesses:
Gastroenteritis: the outbreak continues, with the Sentinelles network reporting 193,000 new cases in France; visits to emergency departments for this reason have increased by 18% in our region, with children under 6 accounting for three-quarters of emergency department visits for this condition in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Flu: Flu-related activity remains low in the region’s emergency departments. The national and regional incidence rates estimated by the Sentinelles network remain below the national threshold. Only requests from SOS Médecins regarding the flu are trending upward (reasons for calls and diagnoses).
Bronchiolitis: The decline in emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age confirms the end of the epidemic. Case numbers have fallen below the statistical threshold defined at the regional level.
