Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of July 2, 2015.

Key Points

  • Heatwave: A heatwave is currently sweeping across France, and many departments have been placed under an orange weather alert for the risk of a heatwave. No department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region was under a heatwave alert this morning on the Météo France alert map. However, the fact sheet dedicated to the heatwave and health alert system is included in this issue.

  • Hospital and medical activity in the region: based on currently available data, activity in emergency rooms and at SOS Médecins clinics remains stable across all age groups. As is typical each summer, the proportion of patients not usually residing in Languedoc-Roussillon is increasing, accounting for approximately 10% of emergency room visits.

  • Chikungunya/Dengue Surveillance: 49 reports of suspected cases of chikungunya or dengue have been received since May 1, 2015. Only one imported case of dengue (contracted during travel to an endemic area) has been confirmed. For this season, no locally acquired cases have been diagnosed to date in the region.
