Highlights from the Midi-Pyrénées Regional Health Agency - 2012 DROWNING SURVEY - Progress Report - 409 drowning incidents occurred between June 1 and July 26 in France. Do you know what to do in an emergency?

The French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) has already recorded 409 accidental drownings between June 1 and July 26—a span of 8 weeks—of which 172 resulted in death, averaging 3 deaths per day.Of these 409 cases, 47% occurred at sea, 15% in swimming pools (all types combined), 11% in lakes or ponds, 22% in rivers, and 5% in other locations (bathtubs, ponds, etc.). Since June 1, 27 young people under the age of 20 have died, including 5 children under the age of 6, 2 of whom died in private family pools.The NOYADES 2012 survey, conducted by the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) in collaboration with the Directorate General for Civil Security and Crisis Management of the Ministry of the Interior, covers the summer period (June 1–September 30, 2012).Its objective is to collect and analyze data on drowning incidents in France in order to guide prevention and regulatory efforts.
